All of you have probably heard the idea of "programming" minds. It's common in manipulation, and videly observable in society, often known as "social norms", "social cues" and "learned behavior". But how exactly does it work?
We all have, or have had the idea that a person is really stupid. Often because of the views the person have. As an example we will use the idea that the earth is flat. But more importantly, how did a person convince themself that the earth is flat?
To figure that out we need to understand what happens when people shelter themself. We all have heard of "echo chambers." These are often formed by like-minded people and they hold dictatorial rule over speech. As such the people who under those dictatorial rules will find conformaty, peace and acceptance. But they will also lose their identity, and follow mindlessly as a slave to the dictatorial rule.
This is not much unlike how cults opperate, or even people who desire to exploit others. Even politicians are subject to this form of manipulation, it causes seperation, contempt and hatred for people who are unconforming. In it's worst forms, this will turn to civil war, or at best a change of rule happens, in countries of democracy to relieve the tension between people. Avoiding outcomes such as civil war, oppression and slavery.
The same technique is used in language, or speech. A good example of this is how to avoid swearing. People consciously change out words such as "fuck!" with "frick!" However, when both the words "fuck" or "frick" is overly used, they both sound very stupid and a clear lack of vocabulary. Saying words such as "fuck" or "frick" rarely, is really not an issue.
An issue with this form of "reprogramming" is that it also work the other way around. A good example of this would be men and women that dwell into pornography. The bar for arousal raises as sexual pleasure is extremely addictive. And as the bar raises, it takes more novel, often dark, sick and twisted content to cause the arousal, that eventually lead into sexual pleasure.
As a metaphor we can say that the human mind work as a scale. We put weights on either side of the scale. With the goal of keeping it in balance. And keeping that scale in balance will give us small, but healthy waves of emotions.
